How does an artist's choice of medium impact upon the final outcome?

Prior to Duchamp & Picasso. most sculptors used ceramics, carved stone, bone, plaster or wood and cast metal to express their ideas. Now available media might include frozen blood, vaseline, waste products, sharks and formaldehyde, condoms, old tights, kebabs, cigarette ends, used engine oil, the artist's own body....

Rob Bonar Law's self portrait was one of 5 artworks recently shortlisted from the thousands of artworks on display on the Saatchi online gallery for a Sunday Telegraph Magazine article.

Although the article was eventually published without Rob's work, this was a significant achievement!

My desire to produce powerful, emotional paintings which are read for their content, their colour and their abstract elements. I have to be emotionally and mentally taken over by my paintings. They are seemingly direct ; I paint about the studio, the kitchen, the artist, my children, childhood memories. So imaginative and observational elements co-exist in each work.

after they leave F floor?

Of course many go on to Foundation courses as well as degrees in Fine Art, Vehicle Design, Toy Design, Textiles, Fashion Design, Illustration, Film, Photography, Video, Book Design, Architecture, Theatre and TV Design, Interior Design - to name but a few...

But then what?

I have been looking at free, web-based alternatives to
Photoshop.

Aviary is a collection of programmes that
allow you to explore image and sound editing.

The kaleidoscope image above was created in my
first couple of minutes playing around with
Peacock. It's very different to most image manipulation
software so do watch the demo video first.

Phoenix on the other hand is a much more straight forward
Photoshop clone that features layers.
